The story of Bingo Bob, one of the most bizarre and perplexing figures in American history, begins in the 1920s with a series of events that remain largely mysterious. It is known that Bingo Bob was born in the small town of Derry, New Hampshire in about 1910.
At some point during his life, Bingo Bob acquired a nickname – a reference to his propensity for playing bingo.
It is not clear when Bingo Bob first began attracting attention outside of his home town, but by the early 1930s, he had achieved national fame as the subject of local and national newspapers articles and radio broadcasts. In 1933, Bingo Bob made an appearance on The Fleischmann Hour, a nationally-syndicated radio show hosted by Ernest Fleischmann.
During his appearance on The Fleischmann Hour, Bingo Bob demonstrated his unique skills by winning several games of bingo using only three cards.
Despite his many accomplishments, Bingo Bob’s life came to a tragic end in 1938. That year, he was involved in a car accident that killed two people and injured several others.
As a result of the accident, Bingo Bob was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison for vehicular homicide. He served out his sentence at the state penitentiary in Concord, New Hampshire.
Bingo Bob’s bizarre story has generated much interest over the years and has provided fodder for numerous books and articles. Some have theorized that Bingo Bob was able to cheat at bingo by using ESP or some other form of supernatural power; others have suggested that he was simply very lucky.
Whatever the truth may be about Bingo Bob’s life and death, he remains one of America’s most enigmatic figures.
