There are a few theories surrounding why bluey and bingo are both girls. One theory is that the names originated from when early settlers would see a blue jay or bingo bird and name their children after them. Another theory is that the names may have originated from a game known as “bingo.” Bingo was originally played with 25 small squares, each of which represented one of the 25 letters of the alphabet.
The player would select a square, and if the letter appearing on that square was the first letter in a word, then they would win an award. If the letter was not the first letter in a word, then they would mark off one of their squares. If at any point during the game a player had all their squares marked off, then they would win the game. It is possible that bluey and bingo may have been named after this game because it is such an uncommon name for a girl.
