When Did Foxwoods Bingo Open?

Foxwoods Casino Resort officially opened its doors to guests on May 17, 1992. The Massachusetts-based casino company had originally planned to open in 1991, but delays with the state’s gambling commission pushed the opening back. The resort was located in Plainville, but closed down in 2006 due to financial troubles.

In 2007, the property was sold to MGM Resorts International and reopened as Foxwoods Resort Casino. It now operates as one of the top-rated casinos in the country.

What made Foxwoods stand out from its competitors was its location. The casino was just minutes away from Boston and Providence, making it an easy destination for tourists and locals alike.

The resort also boasted a variety of amenities not typically found at other casinos, such as a luxury hotel and a spa.

Despite its success, Foxwoods faced several challenges in the late 2000s and early 2010s. In 2006, the property filed for bankruptcy after losing $1 billion in value over a two-year period.

In 2009, officials at the casino were accused of bribing state officials in order to win licenses to operate in Massachusetts. The charges were eventually dropped, but the scandal caused major damage to Foxwoods’ reputation.

In March 2012, MGM Resorts International announced that it would sell Foxwoods Resort Casino due to mounting debt and competition from newer casinos online and on television. Despite this setback, the casino continued to operate until it closed on December 31st, 2016.
