In 1876, James Francis Hennigan, an Irish immigrant, published a song called The Bingo Song in the New York Daily Graphic newspaper. The song was written to parody a popular Irish ballad, The Battle of the Boyne. The lyrics of the Bingo Song include the lines “Bing-o, bing-o, bing-o/A penny for your thoughts/And a pound for your feelings/Oh! What can you buy for a dime?”
The song quickly became popular and was recorded by numerous artists. In 1932, Bing Crosby recorded a version of the song that became an international hit.
The song has been featured in numerous films and television shows over the years, and has even been adopted as the official anthem of the Pennsylvania State Lottery. The Bingo Song remains one of the most popular and enduring songs ever written.
