Get Out is a 2017 horror film written and directed by Jordan Peele. The film stars Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, and Bradley Whitford. It tells the story of Chris (Kaluuya), an African American man who visits his white girlfriend’s family in Atlanta for the weekend, only to find that they are strange and possibly dangerous. While there, he meets her parents (Williams and Whitford), who seem nice enough at first.
However, Chris begins to suspect that something is wrong with them after he sees them playing bingo – a game which he knows nothing about. As the night goes on, Chris begins to realize that the family may be involved in some sort of secret sinister behavior. Isolated and scared, Chris must do whatever it takes to escape and warn the people he loves before it’s too late.
The bingo scene in Get Out is undoubtedly one of the most disturbing and terrifying sequences in the film. It serves as a very effective introduction to Chris’s suspicions about the family – suspicions which are confirmed when he observes them playing the game in secret. The scene is also very well-written and acted, setting a creepy tone from the get-go.
The bingo game itself is a clever metaphor for Chris’s own situation: he is surrounded by people who are seemingly friendly and normal on the outside, but who may be hiding something sinister underneath. In this way, the bingo scene in Get Out provides an excellent example of how Jordan Peele uses horror to explore social issues like race and identity.
