Bingo Bango is a Japanese pop group formed in 2002. The group consists of four members: Haruka Ikeda, Ayumi Hamasaki, Miyuki Nakajima, and Rumi Kujawa.
The group is signed to the Avex Trax record label.
The group’s debut album, “Colorful Life”, was released in 2003 and peaked at number two on the Oricon Albums Chart. The album spawned two singles, “Kimi no Na Wa” and “Eien Sweet 16”. In 2004, the group released their second album, “Happy Life”. The album peaked at number one on the Oricon Albums Chart and spawned the singles “Happy!” and “Crazy Crazy Crazy”.
In 2005, Bingo Bango released their third album, “Dance Dance Dance”. The album peaked at number one on the Oricon Albums Chart and spawned the singles “Dance Dance Dance” and “Ii Aishiteru”.
In 2006, Bingo Bango released their fourth album, “Love Symphony”. The album peaked at number one on the Oricon Albums Chart and spawned the singles “Love Symphony” and “Kimi no Na Wa (Instrumental).” In 2007, Bingo Bango released their fifth album, “Aqua Blue.” The album peaked at number one on the Oricon Albums Chart and spawned the singles “Aqua Blue” and “Shine.
” In 2008, Bingo Bango released their sixth album, “Snowdrop.” The album peaked at number one on the Oricon Albums Chart and spawned the singles “Snowdrop” and “Kimi no Na Wa (Instrumental).” In 2009, Bingo Bango released their seventh album, “Wonderland.” The album peaked at number one on the Oricon Albums Chart and spawned the singles “Wonderland” and “Dance Dance Dance.”.
In 2010, Bingo Bango released their eighth studio album,”Myself!”. The album peaked at number one on the Oricon Albums Chart. In 2011 they released a greatest hits compilation titled “”Best of Bingo Bango 2010-2011″” which consisted of all of their past hits in chronological order.
In 2012 they released a new single titled “”Futari”” which was used as the opening theme song for the anime series Attack on Titan. They also announced that they would be taking a hiatus after this single’s release.
Bingo Bango has sold over 10 million records worldwide. They have been nominated for several awards including Best New Artist at the MTV Japan Music Awards five times (2004-2007), Best Japanese Group at the Animage Anime Awards nine times (2004-2012), Best Japanese Pop Group at Japan Gold Disc Awards eight times (2005-2012), Best Japanese Pop Performance by a Duo or Group at Animage Anime Awards six times (2005-2009), Best Japanese Pop Songwriter at Japan Gold Disc Awards four times (2005-2009), and Best New Artist at Billboard Japan Music Award three times (2006-2009). They have also won accolades such as Top 10 Artist of 2004 by HMV Japan, Top 5 Artist of 2005 by Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) Japan music chart show Music Bank Japan three times consecutively from October 2005 to December 2005; Top 3 Artist of 2006 by KBS music chart show Music Bank Japan twice consecutively from January 2006 to March 2006; Top 2 Artist of 2007 by KBS music chart show Music Bank Japan twice consecutively from January 2007 to March 2007; Songwriter of Year at Billboard Japan Music Award 2009; Best 4th Single award for “”Futari”” from MTV Video Music Awards Japan in 2012.
