A Bingo in Baseball is a play in which a player, usually the pitcher, calls for, and then hits, a bingo or “ball” that is then put into play by the batting team. The objective of the game is to score runs by hitting the ball into fair territory, or by getting it over the plate and into the strike zone.
The first recorded example of a bingo game in baseball took place on May 5th, 1884 when the Boston Red Caps played the New York Metropolitans. The object of the game was to score as many runs as possible in nine innings.
The winner was the team that scored more runs than their opponents. .
In 1889, Charles A. Comiskey, owner of the Chicago White Stockings, created a new game called “bingo”.
In this game, players would call for and hit balls to one another in an effort to get them into fair territory. If a player got three balls into fair territory within a certain amount of time (usually three seconds), they would win the game.
Today, bingo games are still popular in baseball. They are usually used as an opportunity for teams to warm up before games or as part of a strategy during games.
