Can Bingo Halls Reopen in Michigan?

M Bingo Halls in Michigan may reopen following the passage of a new law that allows for the operation of bingo games in non-profit organizations. The law, which was approved by the Michigan House of Representatives on February 21st, 2019, reverses a previous ban that was put into place in 2014.

According to the Detroit News, Governor Gretchen Whitmer has indicated that she plans to sign the bill into law.

The new law permits bingo games to be operated by non-profit organizations with a membership that is at least 50% female. Additionally, games must be operated between 7:00 PM and 2:00 AM, and all proceeds must go towards charity.

Bingo halls that violate any of these provisions may be subject to fines or closure.

While some have expressed concern about the potential for gambling addiction among women, others argue that the new law will provide an important opportunity for women to socialize and have fun. Given the current climate of gender equality in Michigan, it is likely that bingo halls will reopen in the state soon.
